Come... My Lord wants me to worship Him

It is our mission to bring people into the Church of Jesus Christ by:

v  Creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that is inviting to our members as well as the community we serve

v  Providing worship services which are spiritually uplifting, challenging the spiritually comfortable to re-evaluate their faith while comforting the burdened souls through the forgiving message of Christ

v  Providing all people in the community the opportunity to worship the Lord regardless of age or special needs

Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs… Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.  (Psalm 100:2,4)

Prayer of the Week

Almighty God, we thank you for planting in us the seed of your Word.  By your Holy Spirit help us to receive it with joy and to bring forth fruits in faith and hope and love; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Your God Is Everything

Matthew 28: 16-20 (Holy Trinity Sunday – 2017)

“Your God is Everything”

            You have nothing without Him. You would not exist if not for Him. You earn nothing; you love nothing; you know nothing; you are nothing without Him. You deserve nothingness – worse! - you deserve eternal despair and torment without Him. Your Holy Triune God is everything! Father, Son and Holy Spirit - your God is gracious. He is generous. He is eternally dynamic in making, giving, providing, teaching, protecting and eternally rescuing you.

The Father of grace loves you with an eternal plan. The Servant Son, Jesus, sacrificed all to pay the priceless tag. The faith-giving Spirit lives in your heart to latch on with a firm grip what God gives. And what does this Triune God give? Everything! Everything you need; everything you need to have; everything you need to know; everything for this life and the next! Your God is everything!

Everything You Need to Have

The disciples joined Jesus for one last greeting, they worshipped him, but with reservations. With thoughts of doubt lurking among their hearts and minds, they gathered around him one last time, on one more mountainside. And Jesus spoke: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me!”

Jesus: I am everything. I left my Father’s throne. I was born in a barn to peasant girl. I walked the face of the dust my Father created through me. I became part of that dust. I was rejected and scorned. I was loved and received in faith. I was forsaken by my Father. I was brutally placed on a cross to die. I was carried by timid friends into a grave to be counted among you sinners, dead for sin; dead for you.

I left that grave. I left it to proclaim my victory in the pits of Hell. I left it to show myself to my disciples and many others. I left it to make your death and burial nothing but a powerless sleep. I left it to bring you to this mountain and claim my rightful place among men. “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me,” says Jesus, who is everything to you.

He is everything you need to have on earth. He gives you everything. Your birth into this world comes by his authority. You breath because he says so. You eat because he provides. You live in safety because he protects. You make money because he gives you strength and ability. You have a bank account because he gives you wisdom. You rest at night because “the Lord grants sleep to those he loves” (Psalm 127:2).

The Father of grace loves you with an eternal plan. The Servant Son, Jesus, sacrificed all to pay the priceless tag. The faith-giving Spirit lives in your heart to latch on with a firm grip what God gives. And what does this Triune God give? Everything!

My problem, and yours, is that the sinful nature does not believe or trust that. Like the real doubt churning in the men’s hearts that Ascension Day we wake up with a sinful nature each day which says “Yeah, but …” That nature loves to think there is more away from God. It loves to think that happiness and satisfaction is found in other ways, not God’s. According to my nature, the person to trust and thank is me.

Still he gives it all anyway. He is everything you need to have from heaven. The Son who has authority on earth has authority from heaven. The Son who brings all good and perfect gifts from his father of heavenly lights (James 1:17), brings them through the heavenly blessings. He forgives my selfish, greedy thoughts. He destroys my misguided doubts and apprehensions. He wipes away the guilt when my idolatrous hands grab for hope in the created things rather than the Creator (Romans 1: 25). He lives in me through faith to hold on to heavenly blessings, so that I see clearly to be thankful for earthly blessings. He is everything we need from heaven to gain heaven.

The Father of grace loves you with an eternal plan. The Servant Son, Jesus, sacrificed all to pay the priceless tag. The faith-giving Spirit lives in your heart to latch on with a firm grip what God gives. And what does this Triune God give? Everything!

Everything You Need to Know

You know what you need to know. You know that he says, “GO.” There are souls for whom our Savior gave his life, who do not yet know that. Jesus sends his believers with a commission: Go help them learn and practice what I have helped you learn and practice. Trinity Sunday reminds us that we are always in mission status. There are always more people who do not know the God who gives them all they need. And God has an endless storehouse of blessings to give. Jesus commissions us to “Go and make them disciples” – students for Jesus – of all nations. We do that work with the tools he provided:

You know that he sends you with Baptism. “Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” He baptized you. In Baptism he gives you all that you need to know. He gives you his very Name. In Baptism he gives those same blessings to others: faith in Jesus, forgiveness in Jesus, eternal life in Jesus. Holy Trinity reminds us of our Baptism because we are baptized in his name. We are washed and cleansed, not by earthly detergent, but by the blood of Christ. Our sinful nature is drowned daily, not by the toxins of this world, but by His Word which is in and with the water.

You know that he sends you every word and teaching: “Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” We have the wealth of knowledge and wisdom. When it comes to knowledge and wisdom the Lord has provided the jackpot: his Word. With conviction for sin on every page, with the words and works of Christ on every page, with the power of the Spirit working in our hearts, we have all that we need to know and all that we need to teach others and usher each other to heaven.

The Father of grace loves you with an eternal plan. The Servant Son, Jesus, sacrificed all to pay the priceless tag. The faith-giving Spirit lives in your heart to latch on with a firm grip what God gives. And what does this Triune God give? Everything!

You have everything you need to know. You know that Jesus leaves you, not as orphans, but with an abiding promise: “I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” You have all that you need to know because Jesus is with you. He is with you from eternity. He knit you together in your mother’s womb. He was present for your first breathe and consequential tears. He was with you when his Name was poured onto you through Baptism. He was with you when you learned your first word and spilled you first drop of blood. He was with you at home and on the road and in the classroom. He was with you counting every candle on every birthday cake. He remains with you during valleys of sadness and rejoices with his angels on every mountaintop of joy.

He is with his Church - in filled sanctuaries and at kitchen tables; in gathered assemblies; in home missions and worldwide commissions. He listens to every prayer, in the pews or behind a closed door (Matthew 6:6). He has been with you at the passing of every loved one and will be at your side as your draw your last breathe. When the last heartbeat pumps, when the last earthly thought crosses your grey matter, there is Jesus, open handed, bringing you to the place where you truly will need nothing but Him!

The Father of grace loves you with an eternal plan. The Servant Son, Jesus, sacrificed all to pay the priceless tag. The faith giving Spirit lives in your heart to latch on with a firm grip what God gives. And what does this Triune God give? Everything in Christ to you for all eternity! Amen.

Holy Jesus, every day Keep us in the narrow way;

And when earthly things are passed, Bring our ransomed souls at last

Where they need no star to guide, Where no clouds your glory hide.

In the heav’nly country bright Need they no created light;

You its light, its joy its crown, You its sun which goes not down.

There forever may we sing Alleluias to our King! (CW 83: 4, 5) Amen.
